For my second emergent technology project I decided to tryout Skype. I have heard several people in the past mention it but I never really took the time to look into it. Skype, according to a little research I did, is the most popular Voice over Internet Protocal (VoIP) Software and Service out there right now. Basically it is a software used to aid in the transmission of voice communication over internet protcal-based networks. You can do video calling, instant messaging, or call phones and mobiles using skype. Calls to other users within the Skype service are free, while calls to both traditional landline phones and mobile phones can be made for a nominal fee using a debit-based user account system within skype. Skype allows people to make unlimited and totally free calls to anyone around in the world who also uses Skype. To do so you have to arrange to meet that person online at the time you choose. You can use Skype for several things: for long-distance meetings with family and friends, for remote activity monitoring, for business calls, long-distance conferences, for cheap calls during travel, or simply for the fun of socializing. At first I was a little scared to download the software because I find it so hard nowadays to trust things that are on the web; but I dove in and experimented with it. I emailed a friend who I knew had skype already and asked them if they could tell me how to use it. So my friend logged in and added me to their contacts list and video called me. I was absolutely amazed that this existed! I know, I must be really behind in times. I couldn't believe that I could call friends and family for FREE and what made it even better was that I had the option of "seeing" them while at it! Skype is so easy to use too! All you have to do is click on the action you want to do. They have the actions in bubble icons making it so self-explanitory. I believe anyone and everyone can benefit from this unique program. Below I have attached the link to download this software in case you have not done so yet. If you haven't, its a must! :) Skype has pictures like this one that show you exactly what you have to do! Don't be afraid to give it a try. Hope you would find this helpful.

That is a very popular tool. I have seen several people that are in the military use this to talk with their families. Great job.
ReplyDeleteI used Skype too! I was a little amazed as well. I felt, where has this been all my life? I have a neighbor I was pretty close to move to Japan and have only talked to her over facebook. Now I can talk to her and see her! It is such a great program, thanks for your post. =)
